I was designing a solution for one of our services. then I got the idea of writing it down. Maybe others have already written about it, but I did not want to spend time doing the research first and then do what will take even lesser time (to write this post).

Answer: You may want to re-invent the wheel because

  • The wheel you are planning to use in your product might be an overkill (more than what you REALLY need) for your requirement
  • The wheel you are already using in your product (car/bike/space shuttle) may have some issues, which you can expect your tyre manufacturer to fix but their timeline (of fixing that issue) might not match yours (product release etc)
  • It might be possible that the tyre manufacturer has (secretly) embeded a nanoscale chip into your tyre which may track your vehicle w/o you or your customer being aware of it

and many such reasons.

There is always a tradeoff,

you always have to make choices,

but the most important thing is, to make The Right Choice.
